HD KSOE Wins 2.1 Trillion Won in Orders for Eight Vessels as 2026 Tally Reaches $10.81 Billion
SEOUL, May 8, 2026 — HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE), the shipbuilding sub-holding company of HD Hyundai Co., announced on Friday that it has secured orders worth a combined 2.1 trillion won (US$1.4 billion) to build eight vessels: six container ships and two very large gas carriers. The package lifts the company's year-to-date 2026 order tally to US$10.81 billion across 94 ships, or 46.4 percent of its annual order target.

Two contracts in one package
The company said the May 8 announcement covers two separate construction contracts signed with customers in different regions:
- a 1.78 trillion-won contract with an unidentified Asian customer to build six container ships;
- a 352.1 billion-won deal with an Oceania-based customer for two very large gas carriers (VLGC);
- a combined order value of 2.1 trillion won (US$1.4 billion) for eight vessels;
- construction at HD Hyundai Industries Co.'s shipyard, with all vessels scheduled for delivery by 2029.
Order momentum in 2026
With the latest orders included, HD KSOE has clinched deals worth a combined US$10.81 billion for 94 ships so far this year, achieving 46.4 percent of its annual order target. In other words, the shipbuilder has approached the halfway mark of its yearly plan with more than seven months of 2026 still ahead, and the delivery window of the new package — set to close by 2029 — extends the group's multi-year production visibility.
What the 2026 backlog contains
The company's order backlog for 2026 spans three main vessel classes:
- 26 container ships;
- 26 petroleum product carriers;
- 20 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia carriers.
The mix shows a balanced book across container tonnage, refined-products transportation and gas carriers, the segment into which the two very large gas carriers of the May package also fall.
